Toyota Tercel CE
| | Model of the car: | Toyota Tercel CE | | | General comments: | We bought this Tercel new for $9500 back in 1996. In six years and 60000 miles, we have had no problems at all. We went to a dealer last week to look into a new car, and found nothing that we would want to replace it with. We ended up putting in a new stereo, and now we have a new Tercel...
It can be a little sluggish as regards acceleration, but the handling is awesome, the five speed gear box is very forgiving, and the fuel economy is wonderful compared with many similar cars.
As for safety, well, I have been rear-ended by a drunk driver in a VW Jetta. The damage came to about $1000 (a new bumper and some body work), while I suffered no injury at all. The front end of the other driver's Jetta was trashed, so that must say something about how sturdy this little workhorse is.
Comfort is surprisingly good for a compact car, though the CE could do with folding rear seats for better storage.
Given oil changes and occasional repairs, I hope and expect that my Tercel will run for another 100000 miles. I have no clue how I could replace it. | | | What things have gone wrong with the car: | Could do with a bit more HP and a larger trunk! |
