| | Model of the car: | DX 4D | | | General comments: | Overall this is a very good, reliable car. I paid a little too much for it ($4500) in May 2000 with 79K miles, but I needed a car after my hand-me-down Taurus died, and its been good to me while I've had it. The speakers were blown, but luckily I worked for a big chain electronics store that sold car speakers, so I was able to upgrade for a good price. This is not meant to be powerful car, but the automatic desperately needs a 4th gear. The 3 speed really stunts acceleration and makes it buzz pretty loud on the highway. Plus it prevents the gas mileage from being as good. The burning oil is kind of alarming too, since the car only had 90K when it started doing it. The car is pretty fun to drive on flat, windy roads though. I can also vouch that it somehow does well in the snow. But I like something with a little more pep and I can now afford something nicer, so I'm getting a used late-model Integra.Still, the Tercel is a great car, especially for kids or those who need a reliable point A to point B car. But if you have the choice, opt for the manual transmission. | | | What things have gone wrong with the car: | Red paint has oxidized to death; Small rear seat; Auto only 3 speed!; Now burns oil at 95K | | | Previous car: | '92 Mercury Tracer (aka Ford Escort) - accelerates better than Tercel, but has had more problems.'90 Ford Taurus - more powerful car (obviously w |
